Contact the Building Department at 812-948-5371 or through the SmartGov portal. Building Commission Board meets first Monday of each month at 4 PM.

Minimum Residential Builders License required for all construction types. Property owners doing their own work on homes they own and live in are exempt from licensing but must still obtain permits. Multiple National Register Historic Districts — Downtown, Mansion Row, Cedar Bough Place, East Spring Street, Long Graf House. Work in historic districts may require Certificate of Appropriateness from Historic Preservation Commission (meets 3rd Thursday of Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct at 5:30 PM). Residential alterations $100 (up to $5,000 cost) or $100 + $8/$1,000 (over $5,000). Located across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY.
